Domūs Living shines as Interior of the Year 2023
During the festive presentation of the Architectenweb Awards 2023 on Wednesday evening, November eighth, Domus Houthaven was crowned as the Interior of the Year 2023. A project with a real wow-factor through which Blom has contributed to the living of tomorrow. We are proud of both the end result and the special title.
Beautiful, healthy, and sustainable living in the city, in just 43m2? The Domūs Living concept shows that it is possible with 235 rental homes in the heart of Amsterdam. The compact homes are clever, social, and sustainable. Clever because the apartments make effective use of the available space. Social because there are communal facilities and spaces that all residents can use, and sustainable due to the use of materials and the sharing of amenities.
Revaluation of the box bed
“Each home already comes with its own floor, cabinets, kitchen, and bed. The purchase of these items by new residents is therefore not necessary. This prevents a lot of waste. Furthermore, the jury praises how smart living can be done in a clever way here. The use of furniture with an integrated bed makes the use of space in the homes very efficient.”
How can we make more with less? The jury not only acknowledges Blom’s creative character but also one of her goals for the future; Smart Living. In other words, maximizing spatial experience and usage possibilities in fewer square meters. The combination of clever solutions, cheerful and playful colors, and authentic forms are entirely in line with the Urban Living concept and modern city life.
Urban living concept
“The jury appreciates the courage with which a very outspoken design was chosen for the homes and communal areas. As a direct result, a continuous atmosphere has been created that extends from the homes to the communal areas. The latter really feel like an extension of the private home. The jury experiences a sincere feeling of joy of living here.”
The designers immersed themselves in the natural environment and came up with unique solutions. The building has thus become a surprising and varied residential complex. With more than enough space to relax, study, and live. After months of hard work, we have succeeded in bringing the designs to life in collaboration with Shift architecture urbanism and achieving a fantastic end result!
