Listed building Timmerfabriek transformed into an urban leisure hotel

In the port of Vlissingen stands an impressive building with centuries of history, ‘De Timmerfabriek’. A national industrial monument transformed into a unique four-star Urban Leisure Hotel. A vibrant place where it is all about experience.

We travel back in time, to the year 1914. The Timmerfabriek was built on a site that had previously been an empty lot. Every square metre of the site has been developed, from the edges of the site to the surrounding roads. This is also the reason why the factory was given such a special shape. In fact, De Timmerfabriek is not a rectangular building, but one that tapers to a point with a recognisable turret at the top. Concrete was poured into moulds made from rough wooden planks to create a unique structural framework. Its history is clearly reflected in De Timmerfabriek of today.

The ship’s luxurious interiors were crafted by the builders with precision and attention to detail. They needed a lot of light to do their work so the building was fitted with huge windows. The light that comes from it today creates a unique look and perfectly brings out the historic character. And this is exactly what Blom Interieurs considers important for the interior of De Timmerfabriek. Connecting the past with the present. Existing elements, such as the concrete columns and rough beams, are deliberately left exposed. These authentic features are what form the basis of the stylishly rugged interior.

Nothing in the rooms is standard
Different styles come together to form an unconventional whole. Warm colours like terracotta and dark green set the tone and perfectly match the colour of the weathered wood. Smoothing everything down and making it new and tidy would lose the unique character of De Timmerfabriek. In new wood, cracks and minor damage are repaired by hand to give the same handcrafted look. Each room has been thought out down to the smallest detail. In collaboration with Studio Hank, Blom Interieurs designed different types of furniture to make the most of the spaces. A bespoke bathroom vanity provides the ultimate in convenience, and the walls are given an extra edge with rough, rust-coloured tiles. Nothing in the rooms is standard. The bedding is of high quality and designed with graphic and sophisticated patterns. A real addition to the overall experience.

An amazing experience for all guests
“This is luxury. This is what wellbeing means. This is unique in every way” according to Mr Jan Blom, general manager of Blom Interiors. The company has been in business since 1931 and has grown to become an experienced project furnisher. With its own design studio, warehouse and fleet, among other things, Blom Interiors is able to guarantee that the whole process runs smoothly. In the meantime, the Timmerfabriek was delivered turnkey and Kloeg Collection has opened the doors of the hotel. “Having such a level in such a magnificent building in such a special location is an amazing experience for all guests”, so says Michel Kloeg, co-owner of Kloeg Collection. By reinvesting and renovating the accommodation, the company aims to create the best possible atmosphere and experience for its guests..

“A ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity”, was the initial reaction of Joerie Beekman and Paul Huges of Team for Real. They brought the project to fruition and thanks to their knowledge and experience, they immediately saw that this would be a very unique hotel. The landmark building has been transformed into a hotspot with endless options for accommodation. From tastefully decorated hotel rooms to stylishly cool lofts. The recognisable tower houses a luxury penthouse from where you can enjoy the beautiful views.

From young city hoppers to families, staying at de Timmerfabriek is an extraordinary experience for everyone!
